Types of actions

Actions are what you do. This includes attacking, casting spells, helping allies, interacting with objects, or attempting social maneuvers.

Many actions occur in combat, but plenty happen outside of it. Actions are the bridge between intention and outcome.

Relation to the character sheet

Your stats determine how effective your actions are. Strength affects physical power, Charisma affects persuasion, Dexterity affects stealth, and so on.

Inspiration can give you advantage, representing heroic moments or good roleplay. Roleplay also matters — a lawful good character might hesitate to steal, even if they’re capable of it.

Where to take actions

Actions happen in combat and outside of combat. Combat is structured and turn-based, while outside combat is more fluid and narrative-driven.
