History of K2

K2, also known as Mount Godwin-Austen, is the second highest mountain on Earth, standing at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) above sea level. Located in the Karakoram Range on the border between Pakistan and China, K2 is often considered one of the most difficult and dangerous mountains to climb due to its technical challenges and unpredictable weather conditions.

The first successful ascent of K2 was made on July 31, 1954, by Italian climbers Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli. Their achievement remains one of the defining moments in the history of alpinism, and K2 has since been a goal for many mountaineers, earning it the nickname "Savage Mountain."
